Denotation and Connotation
In this advert I can see a young boy who might be around 8-9 years old .He is sitting on a chair and he looks quite unhappy and serious. In the background I see a small hut and a dry area which suggests it is set in a poor country.The phrase 'Dig toilets Not graves' talks about death due to the lack of water therefore it makes the consumer feel sympathy towards the boy.The boy's face would make the consumer pity him which will persuade them to help him.The colour of the ground and the wall shows the consumer that the life of the boy is plain,empty and boring.The colour white shows the innocence and purity of the boy. Therefore the producer is able to make the reader feel emotional due to the boy's circumstances and are able to convince them to help or donate people that are in similar situations.
